Columbia University is hiring for 5 language instructor positions, including

Teaching Jobs in African Languages at Columbia University

The Language Resource Center at Columbia University invites
applications for the
position of part-time lecturer in the following languages; Wolof, Zulu, Hausa,
Pulaar, Bambara. These positions are funded by an external grant for a period
of four years beginning with the academic year 2005-2006. Renewal in 2009 will
depend on program growth and their successful integration and coordination with
the work of other programs directly related to the African continent.

Columbia University is one of the nation's leading research universities and is
home to the Institute of African Studies, one of the nation's leading centers
of intellectual discourse on Africa in a wide range of disciplines including
anthropology, demography, economics, history, literature, politics, religion,
and sociology. Columbia currently offers regular instruction in Kiswahili and
has offered courses in several other African languages in the past.

Hausa Duties: teaching four sections of Hausa to be distributed as follows: one
section of Elementary I and Intermediate I Hausa in the Fall semester, and one
section of Elementary II and Intermediate II Hausa in the Spring semester.

Credentials: M.A. degree preferred, evidence of excellence in
language teaching;
native command of Hausa and English; ability to work independently and
willingness to develop the curriculum; excellent oral and written communication
skills.
